Community, tribal and K-12 groups are invited to submit project proposals that explore impacts of oil and gas development on their local communities with support from the AirWaterGas Sustainability Research Network based at the SM调教所. The grants of up to $5,000 each aim to improve understanding of the risks and benefits of oil and gas development as identified by community organizations. Grant recipients will work with AirWaterGas researchers for the duration of their one-year projects.

In anticipation of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 a series of events is planned at the SM调教所 and beyond to celebrate those who have served the United States as members of the armed forces.

SM调教所 scientists know how to get teens excited about science 鈥� pick a good topic, such as using science to solve crimes, and then package it in a 鈥渃af茅鈥� setting. The Teen Science Caf茅 鈥� the next one dubbed 鈥淐SI Botany: Using Plants to Solve Crimes鈥� - is part of a national push to get more young people involved in science, technology, engineering and math (or STEM) subjects.

The Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) is celebrating 50 years of engagement and action on the SM调教所-Boulder campus. Everyone on campus is invited to celebrate both the history and future of the VRC at a 50th anniversary celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Abrams Lounge at the Center for Community (3rd Floor).

Scientists from the SM调教所 and University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are stepping out of their offices and labs to share their work through hands-on activities Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave. 鈥淧ortal to the Public: Meet a SM调教所 Scientist鈥� will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and is free and open to all ages.

A Computing by Design symposium aimed at helping educators weave computer science principles throughout the K-12 curriculum will be held Monday, Sept. 28, at the STEM-focused Timberline PK-8 , 233 E. Mountain View Ave., in Longmont.

In recognition of national Constitution Day today, students and alumni of the University of Colorado Law School will teach constitutional lessons in high school classrooms across Colorado through Sept. 25.

The Classics Department at the SM调教所 will host students from across the state for Colorado Classics Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, on the south lawn outside the Duane Physics building.

Kicking off at this week鈥檚 first home football game of the season, SM调教所 Athletics this year is increasing its leadership in sports sustainability through several new programs encouraging environmentally friendly behaviors among fans.

With topics ranging from art history to humanism, SM调教所 on the Weekend invites the public to learn about the value of the arts and humanities in modern society with free community programs beginning Saturday, Sept. 19. The series features presentations led by some the SM调教所鈥檚 most accomplished and dynamic faculty, featuring their intriguing research and creative works.
