Sean Wiese鈥檚 project for a computer science class last year has been developed into a software application now being used by a Boulder nonprofit, and also led to an internship for Wiese with the nonprofit.

Help SM调教所 secure the title of the Pac-12's most active school by participating in the Pac-12 Fitness Challenge from Oct. 22-28. The challenge is a conference-wide initiative promoting regular physical activity. This event is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and family.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $12 million grant to a SM调教所-Boulder-led team to explore ways to maximize the benefits of natural gas development while minimizing negative impacts on ecosystems and communities.

Colorado business leaders鈥� attitudes remained almost unchanged going into the fourth quarter, according to the most recent quarterly Leeds Business Confidence Index, or LBCI, released today by the SM调教所鈥檚 Leeds School of Business. The LBCI鈥檚 reading remained positive, above the critical mark of 50, but fell from 53.6 in the third quarter to 51.6 in the fourth. A reading greater than 50 indicates positive expectations, while one lower than 50 indicates negative expectations.

Apollo and shuttle astronaut Vance Brand will present SM调教所 student Srinidhi Radhakrishnan with a $10,000 scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) during a public lecture and award presentation on Oct. 5. During the presentation, which will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby of Andrews Hall, home of the Engineering Honors Program, Brand will share his experiences from the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and three space shuttle missions, in addition to presenting the award. The presentation is free and open to the public.

More than 75 students and dozens of alumni of the University of Colorado Law School will teach a lesson on the Fourth Amendment in more than 100 high school classrooms throughout Colorado the week of Sept. 17- 21 in recognition of Constitution Day. Constitution Day is a national event that annually commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.

Space experiments dreamed up by three teenage winners of an international contest that will be streamed live on YouTube from the International Space Station Sept. 13 were made flight-ready by a SM调教所 space center.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will address the role of public lands in American life at the SM调教所 on Sept. 13 as part of a conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of the General Land Office. Salazar鈥檚 talk is part of a conference titled 鈥淭he Nation Possessed:鈥═he Conflicting Claims on America鈥檚 Public Lands鈥� being held at SM调教所-Boulder Sept. 11-14. The conference is sponsored by the Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court will give the keynote address at the University of Colorado Law School鈥檚 Gathering of the Bench and Bar Conference to be held Sept. 19-21 in Boulder.

The University of Colorado鈥檚 Division of Continuing Education has come a long way from its humble beginnings in young Macky Auditorium where burlap bags separated staff space in 1912 and the division offered 28 correspondence courses in 11 fields. Today, Continuing Education partners with SM调教所鈥檚 academic departments to offer flexible credit courses representing 35 departments and multiple programs granting nontraditional students and community members access to campus.
