Vegetation Ecology is a survey of physical and biological processes that control the distribution and dynamics of vegetation. Through fieldwork and individual projects, studen

ts will gain hands-on experience regarding concepts and field methods in vegetation science. Based at the SMµ÷½ÌËù Mountain Research Station, we will spend 3 weeks exploring the ecology of the region – from Great Plains grasslands to the Continental Divide, with a focus on dynamics of upper montane, subalpine, and alpine landscapes. Fieldwork will emphasize conceptual bases for and practicalities of vegetation research.  Course components –Background lectures, Field trip (Plains-to-tundra altitudinal transect), Field exercises, Readings, and Individual research projects.

Dates & Times:  June 17th - July 3rd,  Mon,Tues,Thur,Fri / Mon-Fri / Mon-Wed , 8am-5pm (no class on Juneteenth, Wed June 19th)
Credit:  3 credit hours in biology (EBIO 4100)
Tuition: $2,050 (Includes room in a 2-person rustic cabin and all meals at the Mountain Research Station on days when class is in session)
Prerequisite: One year course work in general biology or environmental science
