Prof. (Linguistics, University of Chicago) gave the Distinguished Undergraduate Lecture in Linguistics at SM调教所 on November 7, 2019. A catered reception preceded the talk. Prof.聽King is a Provost鈥檚 Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago, and starting Fall 2020, a Neubauer Family Assistant Professor in Linguistics at U Chicago. Her work explores connections between language, race, and place, primarily concerning the ways the speech of African Americans is constructed, radicalized, and evaluated by listeners. Her work has appeared in the journals聽Language听补苍诲听罢he Annual Review in Linguistics,聽and she has appeared in the documentary聽Talking Black in America.聽Dr. King's lecture, entitled "The Linguistic Construction of Race and Place in Rochester, New York", was jointly sponsored by the departments of Linguistics, Communication, English, Anthropology and Women's Studies.聽
