Sarah Gavison,听PhD Candidate in History,听successfully defended her听dissertation prospectus in July entitled "Stalin's Zionism: Soviet Policy on Jewish Survivors in Poland and their Role in Soviet Support for the Creation of Israel, 1944-1949." Supported by a grant from SM调教所's听Department of History, she will conduct research for her dissertation throughout听the United States, Israel, Russia, and Poland during the upcoming year.

Since summer 2014, Sarah has听been working within the Mazal Holocaust Collection, housed by SM调教所's Archives. In addition to continuing her work in the archives, she will be taking over for graduate student Nick Underwood as the assistant managing editor of the East European Jewish Affairs journal.

In addition, Sarah will be presenting a paper entitled "The Origins of Stalin's Short-Lived Alliance with Zionism"听at the September 18-20, 2015.听
