In October University of Colorado聽President Bruce D. Benson聽(Geol鈥64, HonDocSci鈥04) awarded SM调教所鈥檚 inaugural Advocate of the Year honors to聽Alvin Rivera聽(EdD鈥76). Alvin is one of about 2,300 volunteers in the SM调教所 Advocates program, which celebrated its second anniversary at the reception and ceremony in Denver. State Rep. Joe Salazar (D-Thornton) additionally presented Alvin, who lives in Pueblo, with a proclamation from the Colorado House of Representatives in honor of his advocacy work on behalf of SM调教所.

Federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado聽Christie Martinez Arguello聽(Edu鈥77) was inducted into the Colorado Women鈥檚 Hall of Fame in March. She also leads the Arguello Dream Team, which mentors and inspires young people to pursue a college and graduate degree. Nominated by President George W. Bush as a federal judge, she lives in the Denver area.

After living in Westport, Conn., for years,聽Hillary Kramer Fritz聽(Engl鈥78) and her husband聽Dain Fritz聽(Comm鈥77) decided it was time for a new adventure. In December they packed up their lives and moved to Snowmass Village in the Roaring Fork Valley to enjoy the ski season. Their daughter Jacquelyn Fritz is a SM调教所-Boulder student and their sonMatt Fritz聽(Engl鈥09) lives in Boulder. Hillary is a former Alumni Association board member who helped revive Back to Boulder Homecoming Weekend, which will take place Oct. 23-26 this fall.

January was quite a successful month for聽Henry Kramer聽(Econ鈥79), one could say. First, he won the Cyclocross World Championships in Gossau, Switzerland. And then, just five days later, he got back on the horse, errr 鈥 bike, in Boulder to win a national title. When he鈥檚 not traveling the country and the world, Kramer and his wife live in Menlo Park, Calif.

What does a retired tenured sociology professor from California State University-Los Angeles do well?聽Irene Blea(PhDSoc鈥80) did not just write a series of classroom textbooks and novels that mostly focus on women鈥檚 issues. The New Mexico Humanities Council scholar also regularly reenacts the life of Dona Tules, the 鈥淟ady Gambler of Santa Fe鈥濃 one of the state鈥檚 most controversial historical figures 鈥 on stages across New Mexico. Fidelity Charitable, an independent public charity with a donor-advised fund program, has a new president.聽Amy Noonan Danforth聽(IntlAf鈥82) took the job in February after five years as senior vice president of marketing and programming. She oversees an organization that has helped donors support more than 170,000 nonprofit organizations with more than $16 billion in grants. Amy lives in Marblehead, Mass.

Since 2007聽Alan F. Willenbrock聽(ChemEngr, Mktg鈥83) has been working in the wealth management department at Morgan Stanley in Tucson, Ariz., where he lives with his wife Peggy. In January Alan was named senior portfolio manager in the company鈥檚 portfolio management program where he will better help investors monitor and manage their money. He also was inducted into the firm鈥檚 Pacesetter Club, which recognizes those financial advisers who excel within their first five years in the job.

LeRoy Jones聽(Chem鈥83) has been ranked among the world鈥檚 best urologists for surgical treatment of male incontinence and erectile dysfunction treatment. Last fall he launched the website edtreatmentsanantonio.com, which provides educational information on erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, male incontinence, premature ejaculation, male infertility and prostate problems. Jones sees patients at the Urology San Antonio Center for Men鈥檚 Health & Wellness.

On Feb. 12聽Geary Larrick聽(DMus鈥84) performed a Black History Month program on solo marimba in Stevens Point, Wis., where he lives as a retired music professor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He writes that his latest work was a review of Angela Smith鈥檚 book聽Steel Drums and Steelbands: A History, which appeared in the December 2013 issue of the聽Music Educators Journal.

After serving as chair of the Alumni Association board, as well as holding numerous other board positions,聽Karin Rutstein聽(IntlBus鈥87) finished her last term in May. Karin was an outstanding contributor to the Alumni Association, guiding marketing and overall strategy. She assumed the role of board chair from聽Jimmy Calano聽(Mktg鈥78) who along with Karin and others, helped the staff launch Forever Buffs, which welcomes all students and alumni as members of the Alumni Association. A dues-free model, all Forever Buffs can take advantage of a lifetime of programming and services provided by the organization.

In January former Alumni Association board member聽Larry Drees聽(PolSci鈥89, ExecMBA鈥03, MMgmt鈥09) and聽Martha Shernick聽(Fren鈥79) were two alums who won the SM调教所-Boulder Chancellor鈥檚 2013 Employee of the Year award. Larry of Longmont, Colo., is Buff OneCard program director and assistant director of Housing and Dining Services IT. He helped wire residence rooms with high-speed infrastructure, which was a key factor in SM调教所鈥檚 ranking as the 28th most wired campus nationwide in 2000. Martha is residence hall program coordinator for Sewall Hall. She lives in Longmont, Colo.

One would think that three kids and a horse training business might be enough to keep聽Jill Kunz Pelzel聽(PerMgmt鈥92) busy. 鈥淥n the side鈥 she serves as vice president of the Colorado Hunter Jumper Association and coaches SM调教所鈥檚 nationally ranked equestrian team. In the aftermath of last year鈥檚 devastating floods, Jill also ran a food and supply drive for pets and livestock affected by the flood. She lives in Fort Lupton, Colo.
